I once talked to a museum curator who called me a textile artist, and a lot of people who see my work say what I do is ‘sequencing’ - but honestly neither of those terms seem exactly right to me. That may be because I am not ‘just’ stitching thousands upon thousands of beads and sequins onto fabric to create bold, colorful mosaic portrait designs, but I am infusing each stitch with prayer, love, and energy. Every piece has hours of time and dedication sitting with the energy of the ancestor or spirit which it depicts. Each piece is lovingly born into creation through shiny, divine inspiration and cultivation. Each piece holds the power of the legacy of those who stitched before me with honor, respect, and gratitude. Yet, each piece is unique and holds its own, whether standing alone or in a collection. Each piece is enchanting in its own magical way. Each piece tells its own story. When these pieces find their home they infuse the space with high vibrational love, prayers, and healing energy.
